It's 2013. The world didn't end. Congress finally took action on the "Fiscal Cliff" in the 25th hour, and the AHMEN-SIFAT Initiative is in full gear!
I invite you to click on the following link and read Page 12 of the Christmas 2012 edition of the SIFAT Journal. You will find an account by SIFAT's Kathy Bryson of Byron Morales' community development training programs in Haiti and Honduras. You will also find the picture below...

Whether the world knows yet or not, Alabama and Honduras have a very special relationship. Alabama-based organizations such as AHMEN, SIFAT, Auburn University, and UAB are investing in Honduran families over the long haul. Through the AHMEN-SIFAT Initiative in Cusuna, Belaire (Jutiapa), and Yorito and the Universities Fighting World Hunger summit at the Universidad Nacional de Agricultura in Catacamas, thousands of Hondurans know Alabama as a state that cares about Honduras.
We do care. Alabama's past is one of a struggle for equal rights. Many might consider this fight to be ongoing; nonetheless, today there are hundreds of Alabamians also taking this cause outside our nation's borders.
In 1936, Alabama-native Jesse Owens defeated the ideology of Naziism at the Berlin Olympics by demolishing his German competition.
During the Space Race of the 1950s and 1960s technology developed in Huntsville, Alabama helped defeat Soviet Communism.
In the 21st Century, volunteers from all over Alabama will partner with community leaders from all over Honduras to help more Hondurans live more just lives.
