Day 2 of AHMEN‘s 2023 10th Anniversary Río de Agua Viva team arrived and so the glorious team t-shirts made an appearance. Our building materials, however, did not. This was our first obstacle.
Our second challenge came in the building of a flat surface on a hill. This involved cutting down a coconut tree against my wishes and moving 20 wheelbarrows of earth from across the street. The trunk of the tree was then split to be used as the new retaining wall for our foundation supported by 10 wheelbarrows full of stone.
It was hot work, but with the vigor of the Red de Jóvenes de Jutiapa-Honduras the day was over before we knew it. Thank you, Jennifer Calhoun for the t-shirts and our support from donors to rock haulers!
With this lesson the Youth Network learned how to overcome the uncertainties of unsteady terrain. They learned to work together across language and how to be patient with the Norteamericanos!
Is this the type of volunteer project calling you to Honduras? Work and teach with the Río team this next summer.
